Established in 1976, the Galax-Grayson EMS has thress ambulances and one quick response unit, There are 10 full-time employees, including three paramedics and seven with EMT Intermediate certification. There are nine part-time employees, including five Emergency medical Technicians and four EMT Intermediates.

The service offers advanced cardiac life support with the American Heart Association and pediatric advanced cardiac life support (PALS) with the American Heart Assoication.

It responds to any rescue operation and also offers transport to homes, some medical offices or most critical care facilities.

It is the emergency medical service and ambulance service for the City of Galax, as well as a large portion of Grayson County.
