On the National Register of Historic Places and designated a Virginia Historic Landmark, downtown Galax beckons visitors from all over the world to explore specialty shops and restaurants. Charming vacation rental cabins, a renovated 1900's-era B&B featuring a heritage garden and motels are within walking distance.

There are many local attractions and events for visitors during the year in Galax, Virginia. Below a few are listed.

The Galax Farmer's Market is open throughout the season on Friday and Saturday mornings. Locally grown vegetables, farm products and crafts are available.

The Rooftop of Virginia Craft Shop, housed in a beautiful old church built in 1907 on Main St. offers for sale a variety of traditional crafts by local artisans.

The Jeff Matthews Memorial Museum displays Indian artifacts, Civil War memorabilia, North American big game, log cabin recreation and a general store display.

The Galax Old Fiddler's Convention has been held annually since 1935 the second week in August.

The Downtown Fest is held on Friday and Saturday during the Old Fiddler's Convention and features music, crafts, food, dance and activities for children.

The Galax Leaf and String Festival is held the second week in June every year. A special music event is held at the Blue Ridge Music Center on Saturday of the Festival each year.

The Rex Theatre in downtown Galax serves as a venue for various music events, community theater presentations and special public meetings.

The Blue Ridge Music Center located at Milepost 213 on the Blue Ridge Parkway was established by the U.S. Congress to celebrate a living musical culture and commemorate the historic roots of American music.

Galax is a trail head for the New River Trail State Park which is a 57-mile linear recreation park.
